Publications

The activity of the Institute of Environmental Economy is carried out by, among others, preparing expert publications. We invite you to look throw our studies focus an issues such as: air pollution, thermal modernization of single-family buildings, strategies and programs supporting modernization of buildings, ESCO, planned energy in Poland.

Energy Efficiency in Poland. 2017 Review

“Energy Efficiency in Poland. 2017 Review” focuses on the most important challenges relating to energy efficiency in Poland at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries – the problem of smog and the modernisation of singlefamily buildings.  Our goal is to provide a sound knowledge base for the establishment of effective support mechanisms. We would also like to continue the discussion about challenges and possible lines for action in the changing political, economic and legal environment. We do not present ready-made solutions as these should be worked out by the relevant officials and politicians who will sign them and ensure that they are implemented with the active involvement of us all.

Technical condition of single-family houses in Poland. Renovation needs.

Report Technical condition of single-family houses in Poland. Renovation needs summarizes the survey research from 2017 amon owners of such buildings. The publication provides new and important arguments in the discussion on the programs for modernisation of buildings in Poland which are currently under development by the Polish Government. It is also useful when it comes to program related marketing activities on the side of companies from the buildings sector.

Energy Efficiency in Poland 2015 review

There are several important reasons behind our interest in single-family buildings. More than half of Poles live in single-family buildings, which makes this sector worthwhile to have a closer look at. According to our research, a great majority of single-family houses are either not insulated at all or the insulation layer applied is insufficient. The 2015 Review includes among other things: a unique report examining energy performance of single-family houses heated by means of coal-fired boilers, the latest research on energy consumption in new buildings in Poland, an analysis of barriers for modernization of single-family houses and a review of expert opinions on the desired structure of an instrument supporting energy efficiency in single-family houses.

Buildings modernisation strategy: Roadmap 2050

There are over 5 million single-family houses in Poland, most of which are poorly insulated against heat loss or not insulated at all. What is more almost 70% of Polish singlefamily houses are heated with the use of coal boilers and furnaces which emit a significant amount of pollutants (the so called low-stack emission). That issue can be solved by increasing energy efficiency of buildings and exchange of local heat sources. The effort associated with the preparation and implementation of a comprehensive thermal modernisation scheme and creating effective system of financial support for thermal modernisation of households brings tangible benefits: economic, social and environmental.

ESCO market in Poland, current state and development perspectives

“ESCO market in Poland, current state and development perspectives” report was prepared as a part of research into the Polish ESCO market conducted by the Institute of Environmental Economics (IEE). Presented information about this market’s development is based on the results of the two first stages of the three-stage research procedure carried out by the consultants of the Institute of Environmental Economics and the CEM Market and Public Opinion Research Institute as well as the research conducted by IEE in 2011.

Energy Efficiency in Poland Review 2012

Why are more and more coal boilers being installed in new buildings in Poland? Why do Poles prefer to switch off lights than insulate their houses? Why do Poles believe that the government will do everything for them? If you want to know the answers read Report by the Institute of Environmental Economics – Energy Efficiency in Poland Review 2012 proves that energy efficiency measures are among the least cost intensive and the most effective solutions that reduce carbon dioxide emissions. If energy efficiency is economically viable, why does it have such a hard time to become truly widespread? We have tried to answer these questions and the results of our queries frequently led to other, often intriguing, questions.
